Coinmarketcap is a website for tracking the capitalization of various crypto currencies. The website collects prices for crypto currencies and calculates average prices that are displayed to users.
The site contains various data on several listed coins, such as price, available offer, trading volume in the last 24 hours or market capitalization. The statistics are updated every 5 minutes. The market capitalization is calculated by multiplying the price by the total offer. Prices are calculated by taking the average prices on the major volume weighted exchanges. Coins with obsolete data points (older than 6 hours) are displayed with question marks at the end of the list and are no longer displayed after 7 days.
Crypto-currencies can only be purchased at stock exchanges, which can be either decentralized or centralized. However, since no exchange is superior to another, an appropriate price of a crypto currency is the average price it is traded on a number of exchanges. Coinmarketcap calculates this average price.
Since April 2018, more than 1,500 crypto currencies have been listed on the website. Coinmarketcap provides the current price, market capitalization and volume data as well as historical data and charts for each crypto currency. Since the beginning of 2018, the website has had well over 100 million monthly page visits.
Adding new coins
For a coin to be added, it must meet the following criteria:
It must be a crypto currency
It must be traded on a public exchange older than 30 days and with an available API.
It must have a public URL that displays the total supply (total coins mined to date).
How can the Coinmarketcap.com website be optimally used for crypto trading information?
These tabs will help you to investigate the crypto currency in more detail.
Charts - Chart of prices for the selected token, collected through the website and assigned to the average value. Remember that this is the best price for the interval. It is unlikely that you will be able to buy Bitcoins, Altcoins or chips on it. Why? These are prices for the past time, nothing more.
Markets - A list of crypto currency exchanges where you can buy and sell tokens. These are not all existing trading platforms, only those that are connected to Coinmarketcap and are regularly synchronized with the website's database. However, I recommend beginners to choose only the exchanges presented here. It is safer.
Social - a selection of current records from social networks, which includes the crypto currency under investigation. It is extremely useful for an investor to have a look at the Internet at the time of a sharp fall or rise in prices to understand the reasons for this change in the exchange rate (and not succumb to stupid littering).
Tools - Here you can get a free widget for the site that displays the latest token data. An example of this widget can be found on the right side of our website. There you will find information about Bitcoin.
Historical data - Records of offers that can be sorted by time intervals. This information can be useful if you want to check the correlation between several crypto-currencies (later we will publish instructions on how to simplify the creation of an investment portfolio).
In addition to current data, Coinmarketcap provides data for historical snapshots and general market data on the total market capitalization of all crypto currencies and the dominance of individual crypto currencies such as Bitcoin.
Coinmarketcap provides a dedicated API for developers, which can be used to run price data in other applications or to embed widgets.
